About Turn of Events + Catering

Our Story

Turn of Events + Catering was born in 2020, during a time of postponement, uncertainty, and reimagining.

What we witnessed in that season changed the way we saw celebrations entirely.
It showed us that meaningful events don’t require big ballrooms, rigid timelines, or excess.

They require intention.

And more than anything, they require the ability to actually experience them.

This work is deeply personal to us because we didn’t always have that experience ourselves.

When we got married, we chose the path that made sense logically, but didn’t fully reflect what we truly wanted.

We followed what felt expected.
We made decisions based on what we thought we should do.

And in the process, we didn’t give ourselves the space to explore what would have actually brought us the most joy.

Presence.

Instead of feeling fully connected to the day, parts of it felt distant.

There was pressure.
There were expectations.

And rather than experiencing the celebration in a way that felt like us,
we found ourselves moving through something that felt more like an obligation than a celebration.

That experience stayed with us. And it ultimately became the reason this business exists today.

Turn of Events + Catering is built on a different approach:

One that prioritizes what feels true to you.
One that removes unnecessary pressure.
One that creates space for genuine connection.

Our promise to you

We promise to always protect your vision, simplify your process,
and allow you to be fully present, while we carry what you no longer have to.

THE MISSION

Committed to making it the best it can be.

Turn of Events + Catering exists to give our clients a deep sense of freedom, ease, and confidence when hosting milestone celebrations.

We remove overwhelm so they can remain fully present, trusting that every detail is handled with care.

We take the vision seriously.

We refine it. We protect it. We bring it to life, often beyond what was imagined it could be.

Miguel Dias

Co-Owner & Executive Chef

Miguel Dias – Owner and Executive Chef, specializes in European and Mediterranean cuisine, creating immersive dining experiences inspired by fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients.

With a deep respect for quality and tradition, his approach is rooted in craftsmanship, care, and thoughtful execution. The menu is intentionally designed — where every element works together to create something refined, balanced, and memorable.

You can expect to enjoy a gourmet meal with inspired pairings, brought together with quiet precision and expertise.

CAREER:

As a child, Miguel was inspired by his parents’ Portuguese home cooking. Enamoured by their love and respect for quality and tradition, he pursued a career as a chef.

He began working in a European bakery rolling dough and baking bread, then moved into roles as a short order cook at various small dining establishments.

Hungry to learn more, he enrolled at George Brown College, where he was professionally trained in the Culinary Apprenticeship Program. He later entered the world of fine dining, flourishing during his apprenticeship with James Charman.

Miguel went on to lead large-scale culinary operations as lead Chef at Cardinal Golf Club, and Executive Chef at Mill Run Golf Club, where he refined his ability to execute at a high level while maintaining consistency and quality.

In 2020, he co-founded Turn of Events — bringing his experience, discipline, and passion into a more personal and meaningful style of hospitality.

HIS APPROACH:

Miguel is the steady presence in the kitchen — the one ensuring everything runs exactly as it should.

He brings a calm, grounded excellence to every event.
He refines the details.
He executes with care, precision, and quiet mastery.

While others are experiencing the moment, Miguel is behind the scenes — making sure every dish, every timing, and every element comes together seamlessly.

“He is a trusted hand you can rely on — so the experience unfolds exactly as it’s meant to.”

ENJOYMENTS:

Being a father to a spirited 5-year-old.

Miguel loves being in the kitchen with his crew, preparing for events and mentoring others to do their best.
